Humble Beginnings

Tents in the desert, tiny log cabins, covered wagons crossing the plains, and how can I not include a manger in a humble stable.  Some of the most important, respected, and inspiring people I know spent much of their babyhood and childhood in not-so-luxurious accommodations.

This is Delia's "bedroom":

Delia's very own baby cave

Yep, right next to the shower and sink.  We don't have an actual room for her in our tiny house, so we had to be creative.  Luckily we have a good size, mostly unused guest bathroom.

She doesn't have cute little decorations on the wall or beautiful, plush bed coverings like she deserves.  I have a feeling spending the first year of her life in a bathroom won't damage her future prospects, just like many of my heroes who didn't have much.

I love your perspective. And I think that so many of the "trimmings" that we stress and obsess about, the perfectly decorated room, the ideal set up of things, are really just that - trimmings. They aren't the meat and potatoes of who we are or who our children will grow up to be. :D Thanks for sharing this glimpse of your life!

I LOVE that. Seriously, how great is it that you have enough bathrooms to make one into a bedroom :) But in all seriousness, because our second bedroom has a bunch of pilates equiptment in it now, we plan on using a small pack and play and moving our little baby and forth from our room to the second bedroom. No nursery for us for now until we can afford to buy something. I love seeing this post and realizing that is ok!

She will have a great story to tell when she gets older. My oldest spent his first year in a storage room and now that he is 10 he thinks that is so cool.

Cute way to put that! Ah, she'll have a room before you know and it'll be like that never even happened. I also like to see that not everyone can do a nursery sometimes-that's just life and it is really okay!

Haha, she seems like a perfectly well adjusted baby, despite the fact that she's been deprived of fluffy bumpers and a window valance. ;) I'm just jealous your bathroom (and your guest bathroom, at that!) is big enough to house a pack and play. Ours isn't. Who's "spoiled" now...?

So cute! I love how she's looking over at you in that picture. I think she's saying "Mom, are you sure you want to show the world how I REALLY live?" ;-)
